Co-curated by Hamza Walker, Bennett Simpson, and Kara Walker, the Monuments show explores how public art influences historic memory, national identity, and current events. The show was inspired by the removal of Confederate monuments following recent racially motivated violence and how artists can repurpose the remnants into artwork that discusses today's challenging topics.

My sketch was inspired by two works that spoke to me: the General Lee Charger by Hank Willis Thomas and "Deo Vindice" by Abigail DeVille. The Monuments show is emotionally heavy, but worth a visit to rethink how public art influences our view of history.
