Sketches: Asian Art Museum on a rainy day, 2/19/2024

When it's raining outside, you can't ride the motorbike or surf, it's always fun to catch up on sketching at the local art museum. It was a nice indoor day at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco:

Cafe Sketches: Noriega Teriyaki House, 01/2024

In the outer Sunset District of San Francisco, you can find a classic Japanese dining experience at Noriega Teriyaki House. As you enter, a large display of Japanese maple and miniature temples greet you along with the host.

Cafe Sketches: Equator Coffees, 12/2023

On the last days of 2023, while waiting for some adventurous shoppers, I stopped into Equator Coffees on Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles. I found a peaceful cafe, modesty decorated, with a very good mocha. What was striking to me was how the bright orange-red chairs and red coffee bags on display popped through the dark brown (almost black) cabinetry.

Upon returning to the SF Bay Area, I found out that there are several Equator Coffees here - including one at the Golden Gate Bridge roundhouse, a place I used to frequent as a GGB bridge engineer. I will have to pay a visit...

Cafe Sketches: One Market, SF - 12/2023

For Christmas Eve, we decided to venture out to San Francisco and add to the festivities of this great City. There are many stories of the fall of SF, but one restaurant at the end of Market Street has survived and thrived for decades: One Market!

One Market was decked out in Christmas attire and the holiday menu was delicious.

Happy New Year everyone!

Cafe Sketches: Comal, Berkeley - 8/2023

We found Comal through our favorite show, "Check Please, Bay Area," and it was great. The Mexican restaurant is a mix of classic food but in a very modern setting. The main dining room faces a courtyard garden that is stunning:

Well, this year is quickly coming to its close - thank goodness for me. I've been dealing with several family health issues and have been too preoccupied to create more artwork. I'm hoping to get a period of peace in order to focus more on my art.

Anyway, please have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
